Haunted houses and ghost tours are emerging as some of the most popular destinations for travelers across the country. In addition, nearly 45% of people in America believe in ghosts and hauntings. It’s no secret that there is a sordid history of well-known hauntings in this country for people to satisfy their ghostly urges.
- Amityville House – Although ghost experts have declared this haunting to be false, it’s clear that this house is well known, given that many movies have been made surrounding events in this home. The former residents of the house claim that the ghostly presence inside is all too real and has led, not only, to murders, but other strange happenings as well.
- Jennie Wade House – This popular Gettysburg, Pennsylvania attraction is famous for multiple ghostly sensations, and has been deemed a true haunted house by apparition experts. Seated in the center of one of the most haunted towns in America and named for the only civilian casualty during the Battle of Gettysburg, The Jennie Wade house is one of the most popular attractions in Gettysburg. Home to multiple spirits, this oft-photographed home is surely to register high on the fame scale.
- Taliesin – The legendary home built by famed designer Frank Lloyd Wright has a troubled past that isn’t easy to forget. When Wright was traveling, his cook locked the doors, set a fire, and murdered 13 people including Wright’s lover and her children. Haunting experts say the Mamah Borthwick’s ghost can be seen wandering the property. Chances are if you’re there noting the fine architecture, it may be possible to catch a little ghostly action as well.
- The Pirate’s House – Set in one of the most iconic tourist destinations in the country, Savannah, Georgia, this home is host to all sorts of ghostly activity. A former inn and tavern, this restaurant, is said to have been crawling with pirates in the mid-1700s and was host to many deaths. Many new ghost stories have arisen, making this eating destination a popular haunt for ghost lovers.
- Lizzie Borden House – In 1892, it is alleged that Lizzie Borden murdered her father and stepmother with an axe. She was accused of the crime, was acquitted, but it is said that the home in which the murders happened is haunted. According to lore, the ghosts of Andrew and Abby Borden roam the halls of this very popular bed and breakfast.
