While there is no shortage of hauntings and ghosts wandering the realms of the United States stirring up trouble or just causing general mischief, hauntings are not exclusive to North America. While we’ve got plenty of spirits on our shores to keep us busy, there are also a plethora hauntings across the globe. If you’re a traveler, a member of our foreign audience, or even just a curious soul looking for the best hauntings, we’ve got ‘em!
- Monte Cristo Homestead in New South Wales, Australia – Home to many suspicious deaths over its 100+ year history, this house is said to be one of the most haunted in Australia. It has quite the sordid history including the falling death of a maid and the caretaker’s son being chained up in her cottage for nearly 40 years until she died and he was found with her.
- Old Changi Hospital in Changi, Singapore – Taken over by the Japanese during WWII, this hospital was used as a prison camp, and according to many, as a torture sector. Men and women have been seen on occasion, mixed in with bloodied and battle ravaged soldiers, and some children.
- Edinburgh Castle in Edinburgh, Scotland – Scotland is known for an abundance of castles and gorgeous landscapes, and the Edinburgh Castle is picturesque as can be. As this castle was the site for many battles, it is unsurprising that guests have mentioned the feeling of being pulled or touched, sudden drops in temperature, and seeing a headless drummer.
- Hell Fire Club in Dublin, Ireland – When this home was built, the owner built over an ancient cemetery and used some of the headstones in the construction. After the original owner died, of natural causes, it was taken over as a meeting place for the Hell Fire Club, and it was rumored to be the host of many a satanic worship ceremony. The house is the site of many different hauntings and is said to be the home of the devil himself.
- Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, South Africa – The castle’s apparitions are supposedly the result of a cursed man. The former governor sentenced seven men to die for being deserters of the military, and one of these men cursed him. He was found dead later that day. The castle is also haunted by a lady in grey who was often seen screaming and running through the halls.
This is just a sampling of the hauntings that happen all over the world, as each culture and country has their own personal share of ghostly action.
