In the dead of winter, it’s difficult to come up with something to do. For other parts of the year, taking one of our tours would be the perfect suggestion for how to keep yourself occupied. However, when the weather gets colder, people aren’t as willing to venture into the streets for a walking tour. Here are some ways to keep busy during our off season.
- Beer, Bourbon, and Barbecue Festival – Happening at The Tunnel in Chelsea, this hip and happening annual festival will have you enjoying some of the finest food in New York, by way of the Southern states. You’ll also have to chance to sample some craft beers and rare bourbons. This festival will certainly warm up a cold winter night! Happening Saturday, January 28.
- Chinese Lunar New Year Parade – If beer and bourbon isn’t your scene, make your way down to Sara D Roosevelt Park and catch the festivities to celebrate the year the rooster. Watch the parade and take in some fireworks before OR after enjoying the cultural festivities and food. This parade takes place on January 28th as well.
- New York Fashion Week – No, you don’t have to be Carrie Bradshaw to benefit from fashion week. There are plenty of festivities for us regular folks, and guess what? Some of these events are even free! Watch the streets for an influx of pumped up styles from February 9-17th.
- Patrick’s Day Parade – Known as the day when everyone is a little bit Irish, St. Patrick’s Day is a huge parade day across the country, but only New York City can do it up right. Stomping its way down Fifth Avenue, this parade takes on over two million spectators, and it’s history dates back to the 1700s. Come be a part of this epic event on March 17th.
- Antiquarian Book Fair – If parades and parties aren’t your thing, there is still plenty to keep you occupied in the city this winter. If you have a deep love for all things literary, this fair is definitely your scene. With over 200 vendors showcasing many rare volumes of famous literary works and some more historical texts. Show off your bookworm from March 9 through the 12th at Park Avenue Armory.
